Sloane is talking our ears off and is so close to rolling over, Hudson loves looking at himself in the mirror and playing with toys. Dylan loves to be held up in a standing position and will "scoot" (it's more like a shimmy) from point A to point B.

F.A.Q
We get asked a ton of questions, as you can imagine. We are getting used to it and have our canned responses to most of the usual questions. However, one of the most frequently asked queries we've received has come from fellow parents, and has nothing to do with the anomaly that is triplets.
"What is the most surprising thing about parenthood?"
It's a valid question, and a refreshing change from "Do triplets run in your family?" Though, for the life of me, I can't think of a good answer. I apologize if you've asked us this and we've eluded a response. Nothing comes to mind right away.
I was prepared to feel love like I've never felt before. I knew I'd be a zombie, I expected to go through diapers and formula like nobody's business. Nothing really "surprising" there. I hope this doesn't sound as if we are prepared for everything. Just the opposite really, we "expect" nothing. There is truly something to the "ignorance is bliss" adage.
Last night I asked Cal to really think about the question. After pausing for a few beats, he replied that it surprises him how little he cares about having poop on him and, how quickly he can change a diaper (such a dude response).
Then it was my turn. I gave it some genuine thought and the answer I finally settled on is how surprised I am with how often I doubt myself. I make a million decisions a minute, and it's a given that at least one of those decisions will have me second, third and fourth guessing myself. It's said that motherhood comes naturally, and I agree with this 90% of the time, the other 10% gives me a deer in headlights look. Before children I'd consider myself a pretty decisive person, not one to be wishy washy. However these past few months have had me rather indecisive at times. I find myself in a paralysis by analysis situation more often than I expected. The funny part is that I'm pretty thrown by the more trivial things. I.E., Sloane and I are heading to target, do I take the stroller or front carrier? I must have stood in the garage and stared the stroller and carrier for a solid 10 minutes. I went back and forth on my decision at least 3 times and even packed both in the car in case I changed my mind again on the way (I did). I chose the front carrier by the way. I guess I'm going to just have to get used to it, it seems like a habit that will stick around.
What was the most surprising thing about parenthood for you? It's a great question, thanks to all who've asked!

ReplyDeleteI cannot express how much I enjoy reading this blog.
I'm so sorry I can't tell who this is! Thank you for both reading the blog and leaving such a nice comment. I really enjoy writing it and am so grateful that you visited!
DeleteI've re-looked at Dylan's bow tie pic 10 times - such a handsome fellow! Mike really enjoyed the poop comment, Cal really struck a cord with the male reader on that one! BTW, are you sheltering the kiddos from a rough Steelers season?? I guess with this at season 1 it can only get better from here!!! Watching tonight and hoping for a WIN.
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Uncle Mike, Aunt Janelle, and Cousin Elise :)
Yikes- we typically try to keep them from crying, so no Steeler watching for them this season! Hopefully next season will be better! Miss you all, thanks for reading!
