Lucky Now

Back in my hometown, surrounded by memorabilia from my youth, helping my parents clean out their home and prepare to move, a song kept playing in my head.  The song is Lucky Now by Ryan Adams.

I don't remember, were we wild and young?
All that's faded into memory
I feel like somebody I don't know
Are we really who we used to be?
Am I really who I was?

As I was sorting through old pictures, saved movie or concert tickets, medals and trophies, old toys and tchotchkes I was struck by how much those things must have meant to me. To be saved for such a long time, and now I don't even remember why I kept the ticket stub from Men in Black...who those other kids in the picture are...why I saved that "Most Improved" award (seriously?!?!?)....every single high school graduation card...  All those things bared some importance many years ago, yet I found myself easily filing them in the trash pile.  It was like looking at evidence that I was wild and young at one point.  Those souvenirs of my youth seem trivial to me now, but it was fun to go back and take a stroll down memory lane.  Some memories seemed like a lifetime ago, some seemed like someone else's lifetime ago.  It's crazy to be back in the place you grew up, when you are now trying to raise humans yourself.  Having kids will make you very introspective.

Once the sorting was complete, we managed to squeeze in some fun.  The kids were supremely excited to take a ride on Bap's tractor and I was excited to eat at the good old Hot Dog Shoppe!  We took them to the playground at my elementary school (talk about coming full circle), and went to Thompson Park (where I spent summers in my youth on swim team, earning "most improved" awards).  The kids got to spend time with lots of family members we don't get to see nearly enough.    Everyone traveled wonderfully and it was a great weekend!

Thanks for the memories, East Liverpool!

Huddy had a great time!
By the way, Sloane talked a big game...like she was going to take a ride, but once it came
time to get on, she almost hyperventilated.
Fun at Thompson Park
HDS!!

Hudson had a lesson in gravity when he tried to
ride his bike off the front porch.

She is so pretty it hurts

Yep, still pretty.

In this video we quickly learn the differences between boys and girls.
Note that Sloane is playing with two toys of mine that made it in the Save pile.
