Balancing Out

Last week's post was a tad on the heavy side...a bit of a downer.  While I promise not to sugar coat things, I will try to balance the not so good with the great.  Parenting is hard, no doubt, but it's also pretty rewarding at times.  The spontaneous hugs and "I love yous" make it all worthwhile and make me want to be the best mom I can be.
The kids are getting so verbal and I love to hear their stories and their take on life.  We've officially entered the "Why?" stage, which is equal parts frustrating and hilarious.  Try explaining why we eat lunch around noon and why we get hungry.  It makes you dig deep, you may end up discussing our ancestors and how they built roads and cities.
Huddy Buddy needs 3 things to claim you as his best friend.
1- To know your favorite color(s).
       - his are black and orange
2- To know your birthday.
3- Read him the Thomas the Train book.
That's it, that is all it takes.  He is such a crazy, happy, ornery boy.  The other day at lunch he and Sloane had the following conversation regarding the kitchen chairs:
Huddy- Is this a basketball chair?
Sloane- No, that's a jingle bell chair, silly!"
Huddy- Oh, Ok.
Me- ???????????????

Sloane is doing so well with the potty training! I'm very proud of her.  And she is pretty proud of herself, too.  She calls in her brothers to show them her hard work.  I hope she grows out of that by Kindergarten.  She is also sleeping in her own room, with a big girl bed these days!  She loves her pink bed and described it as "enormous!" to Aunt Lara recently.  It's so hard to believe she is old enough to be hitting these milestones.
Sloane (and Huddy) in her new bed.  It's like a barbie princess fever dream.
So much pink and purple!

Dylan loves discussing frogs and we have to do so every night at bedtime.  He is quickly becoming the foremost expert on amphibians.  He is also an expert puzzle builder.  Cal and I are not sure where he got that talent as neither of us are any good at them.  We had a bit of a health scare with him today that landed us at the pediatrician.  When he woke up he told me he couldn't walk and refused to put any weight on his left leg.  He even crawled to get around.  I gave him some Motrin and we headed to the doctors.  The good news is that the Motrin worked and the doc thinks it was just a pulled muscle. Thank goodness!  The kiddos did great while Dyl was being examined, I was very proud of them.

Helping Daddy make pancakes on a Saturday morning

This weekend looks like it is going to be in the 60s so we are looking forward to getting outside for some bike rides.  Hope you are looking forward to a great weekend!

Basement craft time

Great painting, big D!

H is for Hudson!

Of course Sloane girl was very precise and wiped every tiny bit of paint off her hands.
Anyone surprised she chose pink and purple?

Computer geeks.
