I Never Knew

I never knew sadness until we waited, hoped for, and anticipated your arrival for over 2 years.

I never knew nausea, heartburn, discomfort and insomnia until I was pregnant with you.

I never knew complete and utter peace and happiness until the nurses placed you in my arms.

I never knew exhaustion until month 8 of getting up with you all night, every night.

I never knew helplessness until your first cold.

I never knew superstition until you started sleeping through the night, and began doing everything the exact same way every night, thus ensuring that you would continue to do so (right down to the 4 pats on your bottom before I leave your room every night).

I never knew how much fun a cardboard box could be until we gave you a discarded Amazon shipment.

I never knew pride and purpose until you said "Mama".

I never knew how long I could go without a shower until you came along (notice I used the word could, not should).

I never knew frustration until you refused and threw every morsel of food I prepared for you.

I never knew how to truly multi-task until you all needed to eat, burp, have your diaper changed at the same time.

I never knew how fiercely loving and loyal our friends and family are until they dropped everything they were doing to help us care for you.

Finally, I never knew (or I guess "I've forgotten" would be more appropriate) how magical the holiday season is until I saw your eyes light up at the sight of our Christmas tree, or when you find our elf everyday, or when you do the advent calendar in the morning.

Thank you for all you've taught me over this past year and a half!

"Don't I look fab?!?"

"Don't try this at home!"

Taking the shopping cart for a spin around the playroom.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree...

Happy Hudson, coloring!
