Occasionally the reality that I am simultaneously raising both genders hits me like a ton of bricks, and totally freaks me out. I worry that I'm accidentally treating them differently, or that I'm sending gender biased messages to them with my comments. I feel guilty when I call Sloane "Pretty Girl" instead of "Smart Girl" or "Strong Girl" (she is these things as well). I'm concerned that I'm creating an expectation when I tell Hudson how good he is at blocks or puzzles (he really is good at those) or that I always comment on how strong Dylan is (freakishly). However, it's difficult not to notice their inherent differences when Sloane is happily reading a book, Dylan is rearranging the furniture, and Hudson is devouring a ladybug he found on the windowsill. Still- there are some awesome moments when Dyl is walking around with a pink purse on his arm, Hudson is snuggling a stuffed animal and Sloane has the toy drill, and I don't feel so badly.
Aside from our trip to the Pumpkin Farm, we've been stuck inside for the most part of the week due to some rainy weather. So, we've enjoyed the indoor playground, and cozied up inside. The kids have also gotten to watch some TV, and as you can see from the video clip below, Dyl really loves Mickey Mouse. Like a whole, whole lot.
